Morocco Overview

Morocco overview is located in North Africa. Its land boundaries with Algeria to the east and Mauritania to the south overlook the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It has a population of around 37 million people and a total area of 446,300 km2. Morocco’s overview shows that  Islam is the official religion, while Arabic and Berber are the official languages; the Moroccan Arabic dialect, Amazigh (Berber), and French are also commonly used. The Morocco overview of Arab, Amazigh, and European civilizations are all blended into Moroccan identity and culture. In addition to that, Morocco’s overview tells you that the largest city is Casablanca, while Rabat serves as its capital.

Moroccan history

Idris I founded the first state in the nation in 788. The kingdom was ruled by the Almoravid and Almohad dynasties in the 11th and 12th centuries. The Marinid and Saadi dynasties later fought foreign rule in the 15th and 16th centuries. In 1631, the Alawi dynasty, which continues to dominate the nation, took control. Morocco was united and reclaimed its independence in 1956.
